אם שאלת את עצמך מה צריך לקרות כדי שהמתחרות הענקיות מעמק הסיליקון, גוגל ואפל, ישתפו פעולה – התשובה היא מגיפת הקורונה.

שתי החברות, ששוות יחד 2 טריליון ו-4 מיליארד דולר, הודיעו אתמול על שת”פ למעקב מגע בין נשאים וחולים לבין אנשים אחרים. המידע יימסר לממשלות וגופי רפואה, שישתמשו בו כדי לצמצם את תפוצת המגיפה.

ראשית, החברות ישחררו בחודש מאי ממשק תכנות יישומונים (API) שיאפשר לאפליקציות של רשויות בריאות ציבוריות לעבוד על שתי מערכות ההפעלה הסלולריות המתחרות, אנדרואיד ו-iOS. שנית, בחודשים הקרובים יטמיעו החברות במערכות ההפעלה שלהן פלטפורמה למעקב מגע באמצעות פרוטוקול התקשורת בלוטות’, שמשמש לתקשורת בין חפיצים קרובים. המשתמשים יצטרכו לאשר כניסה למעקב הזה (opt-in), ואם ידווחו שהם התגלו כנשאים, המערכת תאפשר לעדכן את האנשים שהיו בסביבתם בשבועיים שקדמו לכך.

שתי החברות, שלא פעם החליפו עקיצות בנוגע לשמירה על פרטיות, מנסות להרגיע את חששות 3 מיליארד משתמשיהן ומבטיחות ש”פרטיות ואבטחת הם חלק מרכזי מהעיצוב”. הן גם מפרסמות מפרטים ותיעוד של התשתית ואופן השימוש בבלוטות’ ובהצפנה.

כשאתה חובש מסיכה, אף אחד לא שומע אותך צועק

קבוצה קטנה יותר של נעקבים היא אנשי רפואה – רופאות ורופאים, אחים ואחיות – שמשתפים ברשתות חברתיות את הימים המתישים שעוברים עליהם, נותנים עצות רפואיות, מזהירים מפייק ניוז ומתריעים על בעיות כמו מחסור במסיכות והיעדר בדיקות. לפי דיווח של בלומברג, בתי חולים ברחבי ארה”ב מקשיחים בימים אלו את הכללים, ואוסרים על עובדים להתראיין ולפרסם מידע ברשתות חברתיות, דורשים למחוק פוסטים ואף מענישים אנשי צוות בהשעייה.

אנשי רפואה חייבים לעמוד ב-HIPPA, החוק האמריקאי שמסדיר העברת מידע על חולים ומגן על הסודיות הרפואית. אבל בחלק מהמקרים נראה שהוא משמש תירוץ להסתרת כשלים של המערכת – למשל, פיטורים של אחות שכתבה באימייל לעמיתיה שהיא רוצה לחבוש מסכה מגינה יותר. אגב, מחלקת הבריאות ושירותי האנוש של ארצות הברית (HHS) הודיעה בתחילת החודש על הקלה באכיפת HIPPA, כדי לאפשר לגופי הבריאות לשתף ביניהם בלי חשש מידע על המגיפה. 

עוד קבוצה של עובדים שנאלצת להילחם במעסיקים בצל הקורונה היא הפועלים השחורים של ההייטק. בזמן שמתכנתים ומהנדסים עובדים מהבית, הפועלים השחורים, חלקם עובדי כלכלת חלטורה נטולי זכויות סוציאליות, מסכנים את בריאותם וחייהם כשהם מטפלים בהזמנות ובמשלוחים שפורחים בגלל המגיפה – אם בכלל יש להם עבודה.

עובדי מחסן ואורזי חבילות באמזון, עובדי ונהגי הול פודז (של אמזון), מלקטי קניות באינסטקארט, שליחים בפלטפורמת המשלוחים Shipt של טרגט ואחרים פתחו במאבק על תנאיהם. בין הדרישות: תוספת סיכון, העלאת ברירת המחדל של הטיפים באפליקציית ההזמנות, מודל תשלום של עמלות לפי גובה הקנייה, אמצעי חיטוי ומיגון נגד קורונה, חופשות מחלה בתשלום לחולים ולעובדים שנדרשים לבידוד עצמי וסגירה זמנית לצורך חיטוי של מחסנים שבהם התגלו עובדים חולים. בין צעדי המחאה נמנות הפגנות, שביתות פתע וחופשות מחלה המוניות

ויש גם כאלו שבסך הכל רוצים להמשיך לעבוד. עובדי ג’נרל אלקטריק, שבונים מנועי סילון בימים רגילים, מחו על החלטת החברה לפטר עובדים במקום להעסיקם בייצור מכשירי הנשמה שדרושים לטיפול בחולי קורונה ונמצאים בחסר.
