Israeli bank Bank Hapoalim hired TV personalities Mr Erez Tal and Ms Alma Zack for its campaign. However, the bank decided to remove Zack from billboards in Bnei Brak, an Ultra Orthodox city, replacing her with the bank\u2019s gnome mascot Dan Chaschan.<\/p>\n

Some extremist Ultra Orthodox Jews refuse to be exposed to images, and even mere names, of women in ads and newspapers, on account of Tzniut, defined in Wikipedia as \u201cthe character trait of modesty and humility, as well as a group of Jewish religious laws pertaining to conduct in general and especially between the sexes. The term is frequently used with regard to the rules of dress for women.\u201d During the 2008 elections, Tzipi Livni, head of the opposition party Kadima, had special billboards made without her photo for Ultra Orthodox cities; Some people were not even content with that, and cut out her name from the posters. Recently, NY Hassidic newspaper Di Tzeitung photoshopped Secretary of Stated Hillary Clinton and Counterterrorism Director Audrey Tomason from the White House photos depicting President Barack Obama and his staff watching Navy SEALs move in on Osama bin Laden, later issuing an apology but not changing their no women photos policy.<\/p>\n

Bank Hapoalim could have created an ad void of people altogether for the Bnei Brak billboards, as is sometimes done. On the other hand, it could have taken a stand and left Zack in it, refusing to cooperate with the misogynist policy. Had the bank not removed Zack, activists might have spray painted, covered, or cut out her image, as is often done in those areas.<\/p>\n
